Jasper Wireless Introduces First Accelerator Service for Connected Personal Navigation Devices
New High-Speed Technology Delivers Superior Customer Experience by Reducing Transaction Time up to 60%
CTIA Wireless 2008 — LAS VEGAS, Nevada — April 1, 2008 — Jasper Wireless announced today that it will introduce the first accelerator service optimized specifically for connected personal navigation devices (PNDs). The company’s new high-speed technology reduces transaction time by up to 60%, delivering a superior customer experience for PND users searching for information like restaurants, gas stations, parking, movie theaters, and other dynamic web content while traveling in their cars. It also enables PND manufacturers to achieve greater network efficiency by streamlining their bandwidth requirements for network-based search transactions.
“Customers have now grown accustomed to the blazing fast Internet speeds provided by their Ethernet, broadband and DSL connections,” said Scott Barkley, vice president – products, at Jasper Wireless. “They want—and expect—connected PNDs in their cars to deliver the same kind of interactive response they get when searching for information from their homes and offices. Jasper Wireless’s new accelerator service essentially gives GPRS technology the kick it needs so that connected PNDs can better meet customer’s performance expectations and deliver a superior user experience.”
Jasper Wireless developed the accelerator service by leveraging its dual expertise in cellular technology and Internet-based services to optimize delivery of data packets. In order to use the new accelerator service, PND manufacturers simply configure their devices to work with Jasper Wireless’s accelerator servers. The company offers professional services to assist customers in tuning these configuration changes for best performance.
Although PNDs will be the first connected devices to take advantage of the accelerator service by enabling high-speed web searches, many other kinds of connected devices can also use the accelerator service to enable even more advanced applications. These additional devices and applications include other connected consumer electronic devices and telemetry applications.
According to ABI Research, connected navigation will become standard on PNDs and OEM systems as the availability of real-time always-up-to-date traffic information and map content becomes a key requirement for consumers. In a November 2007 report, ABI estimated that more than 62% of all navigation devices will feature real-time two-way connectivity by 2012, with nearly 170 million units shipping worldwide.
Availability
Jasper Wireless’s accelerator service will be available on May 1, 2008. For more information about the accelerator service, contact Jasper Wireless.
